A pulmonologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of lung disorders. These include lung cancer, COPD (emphysema), asthma, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia and other infections of the lung including tuberculosis, dyspnea (shortness of breath), and cough and chest pain related to pulmonary disorders.
Sleep Medicine is a rapidly growing specialty which treats disorders related to sleep.Including sleep apnea, hypersomnia (excessive day time sleepiness), insomnia (inability to get a good night sleep), narcolepsy, parasomnia (sleep walking, night terrors, nightmares, etc.), nocturnal epilepsy and circadian rhythm disorders (jet lag, shift work related sleep disorders, etc.), restless legs syndrome, and snoring.
A sleep specialist is a physician who is trained and has expertise in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders. Dr. Rao works with Auburn Community Hospital's Sleep Disorders Center to provide comprehensive diagnostic testing and treatment of these disorders.
